Fab facts about February

Well hello February! I must say you’re very welcome and we’ve been looking forward to seeing you after your predecessor, January, who seemed to linger just a teeny bit too long.

Five February facts

February is the shortest month of the year, with 28 days (29 in a leap year) although the second month of the year feels like a huge contrast from January that always seems to last 275857274382 days.

A reason to be kind

17th February is random acts of kindness day. You may like to read this blog post I’ve just updated. It contains some small gestures that could make a huge difference to someone’s day. https://countryrambles.com/2023/02/01/be-kind-always/

Pancakes

21st February 2023 is Shrove Tuesday, otherwise known as pancake day. You can’t beat pancakes (well yes you can actually but only before you cook the mixture 😁) topped with a simple combination of lemon and sugar. Although now there are many different ways you can enjoy your pancakes. Popular fillings or toppings include fresh fruit, jam, syrup, chocolate spread or even sprinkles – well the original idea is to use up all the sweet ingredients in your cupboard. Did you know the theory behind the origin of having pancakes on Shrove Tuesday is to use up ingredients such as sugar, in order to give up something for Lent. Lent is the six week period leading to Easter Sunday.

Hooray for pancake day!

February half term

February has a week long half term holiday – much awaited by school children – and probably even more so by teachers and other school staff. In 2023 it runs from Saturday 11th to Sunday 19th February.

It’s nearly spring

February is the month to traditionally start to feel like spring. You should be able to spot an abundance of daffodils and also crocuses and snowdrops. A wonderful sight to behold and a glimpse of hope that spring is on its way! The days are starting to get longer and we’ll likely get more sunshine too. February is often quite a cold month but definitely not as dreary as January, it has a brighter feel!

Springtime is a lovely time of year!

Days are getting lighter

Just look at we’ve got to look forward to! I’ve shown the sunrise and sunset times for the next six months – looking good! The times I’ve shown are for London, UK, so obviously sunrise and sunset times will differ where you are but it’s hopefully a pretty good reason to feel happy.
