We know happiness is fairly contagious right? Well stripped right back, think about if someone smiles – usually it makes people smile back. Obviously not if someone is in a really dark place, but in general people tend to return a smile. I even smile back at my dog when he smiles at me and start to chat to him. He really does smile too…
So how can we help other people to feel a bit happier than they may be feeling?
Well the number one answer, as above, has to be to smile at them.
What else can we do?
Give someone the time of day, take a minute just to talk to them, you might be the only person who has spoken to them all day. They might not want to talk to you and if so I’m sure they’ll let you know, but if they talk back it’s win win for you both.
Ask someone for some help with something or their opinion on something. This will make them feel important and wanted and that their opinion counts. It might make them feel extra knowledgeable about something so will boost their confidence.
On the flip side of this, offer to help someone with something, especially if you notice that they are struggling. People have pride and don’t like to ask for help but we can’t all be good at everything.
Open a door for someone, this will make someone feel special. It’s far better than just letting it slam in their face, that’s for sure!
Tidy up after someone, take someone else’s plate/cup with yours when they are finished with it.
Play some happy music if you are in a position to. Music is so powerful and a massive way to affect a mood.
Text a friend that you haven’t spoken to for a while, just to say ‘hi’ – you don’t know what might be going on in their life at the moment.
Give someone flowers, you could always go for the personal touch and pick some out your own garden.
These are just a few easy to do things I thought of quickly, but I’m sure you can think of loads more!
Doing these things and knowing you have made other people happy will lift your spirits and make you feel happy too – I promise!
Great suggestions! Could easily be added into the day ❤ x

A smile can do so much, the number of people I smile at who looked shocked that another human as acknowledged them astounds me. I also always chat to check out staff, they get too many people being grumpy

😀I always say hello to check out staff or people in shops! Personally sometimes I find it more awkward not to smile at someone especially if it’s someone you’re walking towards or see regularly!

Aww this is such a lovely post Fiona and great suggestions. Asking someone’s opinion or help is a brilliant idea as it shows you care about their thoughts and value their knowledge. Yay for happy music! Also, your doggie is the absolute cutest, such sweet photographs. Thank you for sharing lovely 💖😍 xx

Love this Fiona! All such simple things that really are just common courtesy but unfortunately that seems to have been lost amongst a lot of people now. Such easy things to incorporate into your daily life, fab suggestions! Xx

🙂Thank you! Wouldn’t it be lovely if everyone could just be nice to each other! “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all.” Kind of thing x
