If you live in Surrey, you may know that Surrey Day is held annually to celebrate everything about this lovely little county in the South Eastern corner of England.
This year Surrey Day was delayed by a week due to King Charles III’s Coronation – pretty forgivable, after all it’s not every day we have a new king to the throne!
Surrey Day falls on Saturday 13th May 2023 and this year the theme is all about the waterways of this special little county, I may be a little biased as I live in Surrey but it is rather a nice place to visit.
Many Surrey businesses and attractions are joining in by hosting activities and events to celebrate this annual event! There are a range of different activities being organised across the county, so depending on where you are, one of these may be of interest:
- Aqua Sports taster sessions at Mercer’s Lake in Merstham.
- Open gardens in Bramley.
- Water themed activities and the Rock Choir at Godstone Farm.
- A guided walk at Tunsgate Arch, Guildford.
- Nature Rangers at Beech Farm Road, Warlingham.
- Secretts Spring Fest at Godalming.
- A Best of British exhibition at Brooklands Museum.
- A self-guided vineyard tour at Denbies in Dorking and also at High Clandon near Guildford.
- A river clean up and paddle up at Shepperton
There’s plenty more taking place over this special weekend and you can find out more on the Visit Surrey website.
In my neck of the woods and well worth a visit over the weekend of 13th and 14th, is Godstone Farm, in Tandridge district. This year Godstone Farm are joining in with the Surrey Day celebrations with a heap of fun activities – including pond dipping – this is an activity they offer for schools and a great opportunity for the kids to grab a net and enjoy the exciting feeling of catching something! There’s probably a stronger possibility of someone catching something interesting in the farm pond, than someone who spends all day at a fishing lake waiting for that huge fish that’s “thiiiiiiiiiiiiis big!”
Over the weekend you can meet Wiglet, the larger than life friendly pink pig who is the farm’s mascot, as well as Squeak from the World of Dinosaur Roar books. Cheer on your favourite duck during runner duck racing – this was trialled over the coronation weekend and the ducks took to it like a duck to water, so to speak. The kids can get creative with Surrey themed crafts and the amazing Rock Choir will be performing at Godstone Farm on Saturday 13th May. You always get a welcome leaflet on arrival so you know what time the interactive animal sessions take place – you won’t want to miss out on pig feeding or the chance to meet some of the cute little animals in the Animal Interaction Barn. If you’re an animal lover and enjoy the great outdoors it’s a perfect day out.
So if you live in or close to Surrey, there’s bound to be something that’s right up your stream! The weather forecast is looking great – we definitely need more sunshine in our lives at the moment so have a wonderful weekend everyone whatever you are up to!
