Hever Castle – beautiful gardens and moated castle

Instagram

Isn’t this beautiful ❤️
The beautiful gardens at Hever Castle 😍 absolutely exquisite, I can’t wait to go back again soon!
Garden centre haul! I love dahlias, they’re absolutely beautiful flowers with wonderful colours and just the most perfectly beautiful shapes. I was so chuffed to get these beauties today, now we just need to keep them alive 🥰
Spot Ellie making friends with a donkey at The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth, Devon ❤️ We were really pleased to discover that dogs are welcome at the donkey sanctuary - they must be kept on a lead at all times for obvious reasons. I love donkeys, they’re such beautiful and gentle creatures. I won’t go in to some of the horrific ways that donkeys are used or treated but needless to say The Donkey Sanctuary are working hard to make the world a better place for donkeys ❤️ You can find out more about their work on their website. The sanctuary is situated in Sidmouth, pop EX10 0NU into your satnav if driving. It’s a lovely walk around the sanctuary and you can also walk from there to other areas, including a nearby beach. There was a no charge to get in but donations are welcome - there is a machine where you can scan a code to make a donation, on doing this you’ll find out how your money is used to help the donkeys and get a good feeling that you’ve done your little bit to help as well as an opportunity to meet some beautiful donkeys. You can adopt an individual donkey which is a lovely gift idea for someone and while we were there we discovered that there were people there to visit own donkey! We arrived in time for an informative talk and then explored the walkways at our leisure. There was a gift shop, as well as a restaurant and outside ice cream shed. It’s well worth a visit especially if you love animals! Take a look at the Donkey Sanctuary website for more on what they do, they’ve got webcams on there too which could end up a bit addictive. Check before you visit too as if any of the donkeys are sadly unwell there may be sections you can’t go in. 👏 and thank you to charities like this for all the caring work they do to help animals.
We took a little trip to Burrow Farm Gardens near Axminster. It’s a beautifully landscaped 13 acre garden with a calm and peaceful vibe. There are beautiful views over the scenic Devonshire countryside and if you’re looking for garden inspiration you won’t be disappointed 💚 it’s dog friendly - you’ll find fresh water provided for them plus a dog waste bin - and a really lovely place to visit. The customer service is great, you don’t need to pre-book and the lady who greeted us on arrival was very friendly and recommended the best route to start our walk around the gardens so we didn’t miss anything. You can sit outside or undercover to enjoy refreshments and/or cake served by friendly staff. They have plants for sale as well as a little gift shop and a selection of handmade ironmongery. If you have a Gardeners World 2 for 1 entry card you can use it here too 👍 The address is Dalwood, Axminster EX13 7ET and it’s well signposted once you’re nearly there. Why not save this post for info 😊
Haytor is situated on the south eastern edge of Dartmoor, and has spectacular views across Dartmoor and the South Devon coast, you can see for miles! You can find out more at National Park Visitor where you can also park. We’d recommend putting one of the visitor centres in to your satnav rather than being vague and just inputting ‘Dartmoor’ or you’ll end up like us driving round and round, not seeing anything and coming head to head with a tractor down a single track lane 😁
