I was out walking the dog earlier and when we got back he gave me such an adorable contented smile, it filled me with joy. It made me think about what other simple pleasures there are in life, that brighten our day or make us feel just a little bit special.
These are some of the things I came up with:
A smile from a dog (as above)
doing something kind for someone,
a nuzzle from a cat or kitten,
the sound of genuine laughter,
freshly washed sheets,
walking barefoot on soft, warm, dry sand,
getting completely engrossed in a good book,
a fresh juicy strawberry dipped in a bowl of sugar,
hearing a blackbird sing its beautiful song,
the smell of a fragrant tea rose,
having a cup of tea in the garden on a sunny day,
being the first person to walk on a fresh blanket of snow,
looking up at the stars on a clear night,
basking under a cloudless perfect blue sky,
listening to a piece of beautiful music,
watching a graceful ballet dancer,
seeing the first signs of spring after a harsh winter
Lying in silence feeling the sun upon your face
There are so many more wonderful things that we can experience that don’t require any money, special equipment or effort . We should embrace these things and make our lives naturally richer. I’d love to know what you think…
I loved this, Fiona! It really is the little things that bring the biggest joys. β€ I would add that strolling down the beach at sunset is another great joy of mine. π

I know sometimes I think we can get carried away with material things when the simplest things bring most pleasure.

So true! Too often, we focus on the big things we think we need to make us happy, but itβs the little things we need to focus on more π

Thank you so much Becca itβs almost like sometimes we need to strip it all back and just focus on appreciating the simple things, for a while anyway π

Thanks for sharing such a wonderful list of simple pleasures. Looking back, I think one of my most precious pleasures was the feeling I would get when I would go round to my children’s bedrooms one by one before bed and see and hear them sleeping peacefully. It made me feel like we were all so safe and warm and lucky.
